Linked to our topic on senses, we have been reading Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Can You Hear? and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Can You See? by Eric Carle.
We have used the text as an inspiration to write our own similar sentences. Our sentences have to have a capital letter, full stop and include the word ‘and’ in the middle. We have also been trying to develop our cursive script and leave finger spaces between our words. We have doubled our efforts in Phonics lessons as it is so crucial for development and progress in reading and writing.
In Maths lessons we are working on completing addition number sentences.
? + 7 = 10
4 + ? = 10
The children who have mastered this have moved on now to working on bonds to 20 by using counters to check their calculations. Often the children work in pairs and ask each other, How do you know? Or, Can you prove it? Everyone needs to be able to explain how they got their answer.
On Wednesday we went for our Nature Walk. Unfortunately it was a rainy morning but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits. We dressed in waterproofs and wellies and set off to try and see some bird life. We worked in pairs to see if we could spot the birds on our identification sheets. Although we couldn’t always see the birds, we could hear them in the bushes.
When we returned to school we watched the RSPB video on birdwatching and how to make bird feeders.
On Friday afternoon we made lots of bird feeders and hung them on the trees around the school. This weekend we are going to try and spot some birds in our gardens.
