This week in English, we have been looking again at different clauses. We have been identifying main and subordinate clauses whilst thinking about how a subordinating conjunction can be used in a sentence. We have also continued to look at adjectives within sentences and we have been identifying which adjective question is being answered. Next week, we will be writing diary entries using the skills that we have developed. In reading, we have thought about why the King decided to hold a firework competition to decide Lalachand’s fate and we have continued to explore the plot of the story.
In Maths we have moved onto subtraction. We started off looking at how to use place value counters to solve a subtraction calculation. We then moved onto a formal method for column subtraction. Later in the week we started to look at what happens when we need to exchange numbers as part of a subtraction problem. In our maths fluency session we have been estimating answers and reminding ourselves that there are different methods that can be used to solve addition calculations.
This week in history, we thought about the seven men from Crowmarsh who lost their lives during World War One. We looked at the details that we have about them and in particular, we thought about how young they were when they died. In pairs, we created an information page to remember these men. Also this week, we revisited our original question of ‘How did lives change during World War One?’ We each thought about an answer to this question and we wrote are responses on a poppy. We are hoping to display this work in school shortly.
All parents should have received a letter about costumes required for the Christmas performance. I know that some of the costumes are not very straightforward so please let me know if you have any problems and I will try to help!
