This week we looked at a picture of a wintery setting and imagined that our character, Supersprout, was there. After discussing all the things he might be able to see, hear, smell or feel, we wrote them on our plans. We used the adverb questions (Where? When? How?) to add more detail to our ideas; for example, for something Supersprout could hear we didn’t just write children giggling – we thought of better descriptions such as: children giggling excitedly as they skated across the lake. Later in the week we started writing setting descriptions; we used the details from our plan and tried to start some sentences with prepositions (e.g. in, on, near, under, beside).
In maths this week we started by learning about equal and unequal groups – ask us what we mean by this. We then found lots of different ways (including diennes, counters, bead strings, money, arrays and drawing on whiteboards) to represent groups of a certain amount, for example 6 groups of 10. We also discovered that multiplication is the same as repeated addition; for example, 5 groups of 2 (5 x 2) is the same as 2+2+2+2+2.
On Thursday we had a fantastic time at our science workshops. Firstly, we had to think about the properties of different materials and decide which were best for certain purposes – ask us about Isobel and the materials that we tested! Our second show was all about the science behind the Fire of London. We learned about fire and what can affect the intensity of it. We were really excited to see models of the buildings being set alight and understand how the fire spread so quickly. Ask us about the triangle of fire.
Homework will continue to be given out on a Friday each week. Children should complete it and hand it in by the following Thursday. The children will be given folders to keep all their homework sheets in.
If your child has come home with a script in their book bag this weekend we would be very grateful if you could help them learn their words. Next week we will be rehearsing without scripts!
Have a great weekend,
From the Class Two Team
