Week 5 (23/03/2015)

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Over the past few weeks we have talked about the verbs and adjectives used in the poem ‘The Sparrow’. The children watched a clip of garden birds and used language to describe what they were doing, how they were moving and the noises they made, we added the language to our working wall and toward the end of the week used the language to write sentences for a class poem. We have talked about different greetings that can be put in cards and made our own Easter Cards.

In Maths, the children have been consolidating and developing their understanding of repeating pattern. The children continued patterns and used their knowledge to try and work out the 10th, 15th and 20th object/shape in the pattern. We have also started to learn about telling the time, we talked about the different hands on the clock and used individual clocks to find different times.

The children have been using oil pastels to draw observational drawings of garden birds; they looked carefully at the shapes and colours and were encouraged to talk about what they could see. This week they have used different painting techniques to create cards for Easter.

In phonics the children have been learning the vowel digraphs oi, or, ow, ear , air , ure and er. They have been practising their blending for reading and segmenting for writing. You can help at home by ensuring they are practising recognising their digraphs from the flashcards sent home. Make sure over the Easter holidays you are reading/sharing books and working with numbers.

Have a fantastic holiday,

Miss Zimmerman, Mrs Jameson and Mrs Bowden.
