This week class R talked about characters, settings, problems and solutions that could occur in our a story. They shared their ideas and then using a story map template put their own individual ideas down on paper. We told the stories in small groups using props and puppets. Next week the children will retell the stories to each other and then use their knowledge of letters and sounds to write short stories.
In Mathematics, the children have been learning about sharing equally. We talked about that equally means “the same amount”. We used raisins and placed one at a time on each plate until all had been shared out. The children then counted how many in each group. You could practice this at home using this website http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=sharingv2 or when sharing sweets, toys between different numbers of children or adults. The children have been counting forwards from one to thirty and backwards as well as counting on and back to find two, three, and four more or less. At home the children should continue to count object to twenty touching each object as they count. They should practise saying numbers 1 more/1 less than a given number and using the number flashcards that have been sent home.
The children have been learning about the artist Andy Goldsworthy, we used natural objects outside to create artwork about ‘growing’. The children have been playing different rhythms on their recorders and learning about crochets and quavers.
Next week is out open classroom on Wednesday 20th May from 3.15pm-3.45pm. The child your child’s ‘Learning Journey’ will be available for you to look at with your child it would be great to see you all there.
