In English, we have finished reading ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’. We spent the beginning of the week looking at different types of sentences – single clause, multi-clause by coordination and multi-clause by subordination. We will be continuing to develop this sentence work over the coming weeks. Later in the week we started our non-fiction English work. We have read a note from Lila telling us that we need to help her to advertise a firework shop that she has opened. In class, we have started to think about imaginative names for fireworks and we have planned persuasive posters for Lila’s shop.
In Maths we have been looking at rounding. We have recapped the rules which help us decide whether to round up or down. We have been looking at number ranges e.g. A number rounded to the nearest 100 is 800. What is the lowest possible number? What is the highest possible number? We have also been using our place value counters to identify the value of digit within a number. We solved problems such as 3251 = 3000 + ? + 50 + ?
In History, we thought about the 3 different farming seasons in Ancient Egypt. We learnt that farming was totally dependent on the River Nile and that the yearly floods left behind a rich black soil perfect for growing crops. We also learnt about canals that the farmers dug and the Shaduf, both of these helped the farmers to water their crops.
Please remember to keep handing in Homework work in by a Friday of each week (2 weeks for extra hot). Anyone who has not completed an extra hot homework should do so in the 2 weeks before half term.
