Dear Parents/Carers,
This week we started the week watching the story ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ by Nick Butterworth on the interactive Whiteboard. We paused the story at ‘there was a scratching scraping sound. It seemed to be coming from underneath them’. We then discuss the story to that point and talked about how it might end. The children used their imagination and we created a thought shower of their ideas. Later in the week the children used their knowledge of letters and sounds to write their own ending; the children tried really hard to ‘have a go’ and used letter cards to help them with formation and certain graphemes when needed.
In Maths, we have been learning to use mathematical language such as longer than, shorter than, longest and shortest to compare and order different length objects. The children went on a hunt around the garden finding and talking about objects they found and their length in comparison to their piece of string. The children started to measure the length of objects with multilink and worked out that more cubes meant the object was longer than one with less cubes in length.
The children have been continuing to learn about Polar Regions and this week they have been painting observational pictures of Arctic wildlife. The children looked carefully drawing what they saw before painting their drawing with correct colours for the purpose.
In Phonics the children have learnt the digraphs ai, ee, igh, oo and also the tricky word was. At home please continue to play games with the grapheme and tricky word flashcards to support your child with their learning of their letters and sounds.
Our maths session for parents will be held in Class R on Monday 2nd after school. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. We will talk about how we teach certain aspects of mathematics in school and we will also have ideas that you can use at home to help your child with their maths knowledge and understanding.
