Week 4 (26/01/2015)

This week we have been reading The Princess and the Pea and using drama & story maps to retell the story. We created symbols for people, objects and features so that we could create our maps and use them to retell the story. We used connectives ‘and’, ‘or’, ‘but’ to join sentences and used ‘when’, ‘because’, ‘if’, ‘where’ etc. to create subordinate clauses when telling the story. We have made up some hand gestures to represent different kinds of words such as adjectives and connective words.

We have also been learning about prefixes, identifying them and adding them to root words to change the meaning of the words. We used re, dis, pre and un.

In science we were thinking about how water can be a solid, liquid or a gas. We had previously explored cheese on toast to see how the cheese melted when it was heated up. Very tasty!!

Our topic work is coming along well. Not only have we been thinking about how The Great Fire of London started but also who or what could have helped it to not spread and cause so much damage. Today with much excitement and mess we made some dough for the bakery in Pudding Lane.

Finally can I just say thank you to parents for your help in making old paper for homework, the children obviously enjoyed making the old paper and were proud of their efforts. I was so pleased with the quality of the homework last week, the diary entries were great. They have made a wonderful display in the classroom along with the splendid Tudor houses.
