Week 4 (25/6/18)

Written by Class 2

Because it has been multi-cultural week in school this week, we have been visiting classes and each class had its own country. We were lucky enough to visit eight different countries.

  1. America
  2. Spain
  3. Italy
  4. Brazil
  5. Scotland
  6. South Africa
  7. Mali
  8. Greece

In America we learnt how to play lots of games including Soft Ball, American Football and Basketball. It was very tiring but really fun!

In Spain we were very, very happy because we got to make and decorate castanets. We also did some Flamenco dancing.

In Italy we sculpted different Italian landmarks out of salt dough. We found out that normally Italians would cook the dough to make it hard, a bit like pottery, but we left ours out in the sun to go hard. It was very hard work but we did not give up and the end results were amazing!

In Brazil it was carnival time! We had a very big art board and we had to colour and make decorations to go on the board. We learnt about a carnival where Samba dancing comes from and we made beautiful masks.

In Scotland we made shortbread. We had lots of fun because we also did lots of colouring. Today at break we got to eat the shortbread for our snack and we all agreed that it was delicious!

In South Africa we made beautiful pictures using paint and pencil crayons. For the background we were only allowed to use three colours. When the background was dry we drew pictures of elephants, giraffes and gazelles which we had to colour in black. The animals were called silhouettes.

In Mali we did African drumming. We played drum games and if you played a beat when you weren’t meant to the teacher got a point but if nobody played it at the wrong time the children got a point. Drumming was REALLY loud but REALLY good fun!

When we got to Greece we focused on the Olympics. Our Class had designed some really fun obstacle courses and races for everyone to try. We worked really well together in our mixed age teams to complete all of the events. We all loved it because it was all our own idea and because we got to have ice pops at the end to cool us down!

For our homework this week we need to find out some more facts about one or more of these countries and present them in an interesting way.
