Week 4 (23/11/2015)

Class 5 Swimming Gala

I have had a couple of enquiries from parents asking whether they can spectate at our Class Swimming Gala. Parents are more than welcome to attend, however no photos of the event will be permitted. If you wish to attend, please let me know and I can pass on directions on how to get to the pool.

Maths

In maths this week we have been doing fractions. We have been finding different ways to make the same fractions [equivalent fractions] as well as adding fractions together by 5/8 + 3/4 = ?    8 is the common denominator because 4 will go into 8. We can now convert the 3/4 into eighths. So multiply the denominator by 2 then the numerator by 2 which makes 3/4 turn into 6/8. Now we can work out the sum: 5/8 + 6/8 = 1   3/8.

English

This week in English we have been doing persuasive writing. Earlier in the week we wrote a paragraph with a balanced argument. We debated on whether the three little pigs were in the right to murder the wolf. Our step to success was to use the method of PEE: Point, Evidence and Explain. Later in the week we used a Fishbone method to plan out a full debate on paper with a statement of position.

Christmas play

This week in the Christmas play we went through the whole play twice! Sound people went through all the songs and props, and lighting wrote down when to bring things on. But the thing that went a bit wrong was the song ‘Pitching in and helping out’. Only a short time to the big thing!!!!!!!!!!!
