Week 4 (21/09/2015)

This week the children have continued to think about the theme ‘All about me’ and in particular their families. In Literacy the children have been learning about labelling, they drew a picture of their family using felt tip pens, talked about their pictures and talked about the sounds they heard in their families names. In Mathematics, the children have been learning to give each object one name when counting, touching each one as they count and then finding the correct numeral on the number line. At home you could practise counting touching one object at a time then match to a numeral. In Phonics, the children have been learning the sounds s’, ‘a’, ‘t’ and ‘p’ and learning little songs to help them remember the action. The children went to the hall this week for their first movement session where they were learning to stop and listen. On Friday we went to the church for outr Harvest Festival service.

Please remember that you can take ‘SMILE’ moment sheets from the folder on the classroom door. These are for recording observations or moments with your child that make you smile! Please feel free to also send in photographs, artwork or writing, with a note saying ‘learning journey’. Please send them to school in your child’s book bag and it will be stuck into their ‘Learning Journey’ as a record of all the wonderful learning they do at home.

If you have any junk at home that we can use for junk modelling please bring it into school so the children can create models. Please avoid toilet rolls and anything that has been in contact with nuts. Thank you.

On Monday morning the children will share their weekend news and talk about our visit to Church for the Harvest Festival. Next week we will begin to talk about the shape of objects in the classroom and in the outdoor environment.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Zimmerman, Mrs Conway and Mrs Bowden.
