In our topic work this week we have looked at an Indian traditional tale called ‘Tiger child’. We talked about the fact that this is a tale that would have originally been told, rather than written down, and passed down from generation to generation. Later in the week we had a go at planning and writing our own stories based in the village of Chembakolli. We had to try really hard to start our sentences in different ways and to join our ideas using lots of different conjunctions.
In maths we have been revising strategies for multiplication. We have solved multiplication calculations and word problems by drawing a pictorial representation. For example we could represent 4 x 3 as:
In science we have been finding out about animals that live in the desert and animals that live in a coastal habitat. In the desert we found out about how camels, geckos and scorpions survive in such hot and dry conditions. In the coastal habitat, we thought about animals that live in the sky, on land and in the sea and how they are suited to living there.
In art we looked at ‘Three Pujarins’, which is the work of the artist Jamini Roy. We discussed the simplicity of the facial features and the boldness of the patterns and colours. We compared them to other portraits and discussed why the artist may have chosen to represent the faces in this way. We then had a go at drawing our own version.
