This week we have been finding out all about Paddington Bear. We have looked at his appearance, his personality and his feelings. We had a go at writing similes to describe him. We also created our own ‘Missing’ posters, trying to use as much information as possible.
In maths we have been partitioning 2-digit numbers. We have learned that you can split a number into ‘tens’ and ‘ones’. We also found out that you can split numbers in different ways. For example, 25 can be 20 + 5, or 10 + 15. We used the part, part whole method to record our work. We also used place value charts. Ask us to split 2- digit numbers in different ways.

In science we have started to look at different materials and their properties. We thought of what might happen if common objects were made of different materials, e.g. If bricks were made of cotton wool. We then thought of positive, negative and interesting things about these object/ material choices.
In art we found out about the different artists/illustrators who’ve brought Paddington to life over the years. We then had a go at drawing our own Paddington portraits. They’re all wonderful!
Just a quick reminder that homework is now compulsory and not optional as it was in Year 1. If there is still space in your child’s homework book from year 1, please continue to use this. Please can homework be handed in by Thursday, it will then be marked and returned to your child by Friday. We will continue to share homework as much as time allows.
Your child should have brought home a letter about our school trip to London. If you don’t have one, please ask.
