This week we have been looking at the different settings and characters that appear in fairy tales. We learnt about prepositions and how we can use them in our writing to describe places and people. Ask us to tell you some of the different prepositions we know, e.g. above, behind, below. We have thought of some really good ‘wow’ words to describe characters and have compared and contrasted ‘good’ and ‘bad’ characters.
In our topic sessions we tested the different materials for Little Red Riding Hood’s cloak to work out which one was the most waterproof. We put the different materials over cups and poured the same amount of water into each cup. We then measured how much water was in the cup. We realised that the most waterproof material had the least water in the cup. Ask us to tell you if our predictions were right?
In Maths we have been doubling numbers up to 6. We have also been practising our pairs of numbers that add up to make 5, 6 and 7. We have been trying to look really carefully at the symbol in sums to make sure we carry out the right operation. We have also been trying to work out the missing numbers in sums. E.g. 9 – = 4. Some of us have also been doing addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers. We have been practising using our number squares to add and subtract tens and then count on or back in ones.
In art we have been creating fairy tale characters by drawing round someone in our group and collaging the outline.
