Maths
We have been exploring fractions this week.
Equivalent fractions means it’s the same amount of shape but the shape has been divided up into a different number of pieces. We have been learning to add and subtract fractions, which have answers with mixed numbers.
Mixed numbers means = a whole number with a fraction
Adding fractions means = joining together 2 parts of a whole
Simplifying fractions means = to reduce it to its smallest form
English
Using our own characters, we have been planning and beginning to write our stories, which includes:
- Chronical order
- follow our planning
- Descriptive writing – 5 senses, personification, similes and metaphors.
- Setting – atmosphere, mood, and dialogue
- 1st / 3rd person consistently
- Past tense
- Relative clauses
- Expanded noun phrases
Guided Reading
In guided reading we have been reading Kensuke’s kingdom by Michael Morpogo, we then have been answering questions using our writing method PEE [point , evidence and explain ]. We had a set amount of time to write our pieces and need to know how to use our time effectively.
Geography
In Geography, we have been looking at rivers, such as identifying there upper, middle and lower sections of rivers and also looking at oxbow lakes, channels etc. Then we looked at the length, the source and the mouth of famous rivers. As an ongoing project we have got into groups, and have been given a well-known river to create a power point about it to present to the class.
Anything else!
We are having a Christingle Church service on Friday afternoon. After we made our Christingles, they made the classroom smelt very orangey ! An extra reminder is if you child would like to take part in the football league please make sure they have outdoor shoes and suitable clothing. Also children need their PE kit for Tuesdays and Fridays.
