In our topic sessions this week we have been learning about the kinds of work done by poor children in Victorian times. We discovered that children as young as 5 years old were sent to work in factories, mines and up chimneys. In our writing we practised writing persuasively, imagining that we were concerned Victorians trying to convince the government to stop children going to work.
In maths we have been learning about division. We know that division involves sharing into equal groups. We have practised writing division calculations (as a number sentence- e.g. 15 ÷ 3 = 5) and solving division problems using practical equipment, using bar models and using number lines. While looking at division problems we know we have to ask ourselves the following questions: How many do we have altogether? How many equal groups are we sharing them into? How many are in each equal group?
In preparation for our Christingle service on Friday, we found out more about the Christingle and what each part of it represents. We also had fun making our own Christingles!
