In English we have been learning how to recognise the difference between questions, statements and commands. We have been reading the book Silly Billy by Anthony Browne. In the story Billy is worried about hats, shoes, big birds and clouds. We wrote in the first person as though we were a friend of Billy, asking Billy questions and giving him advice.
In maths we have been working on number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. We have also been learning about pictograms. We have been looking at the information and answering questions about it. We have also been using tally charts to draw our own pictographs where one symbol = 2 votes.
In science we have been learning about the rainforest habitat. We have been making information posters to explain how animals and plants adapt to their surroundings.
On Friday we had a visitor from Earthworm Watch who told us some interesting information about worms. We went outside to dig a shallow hole 20cm square. We looked for Pale worms near the surface and Redder worms lower down. We them mixed some mustard powder with some water and poured it into the hole. The mustard irritates the very long worms that are deep in the soil (but does not harm them ) and they come to the surface. We now know that the pointy end of a worm is the head and adult worms have a saddle ( a thick bit ) near the head end.
Many of us took home some information sheets to carry out our own Earthworm Watch on the weekend. What a wiggly end to the week!
