Week 2 (09/11/2015)

In our English lessons we have been studying poetry. As part of the New Curriculum we have to learn and recite some poetry. We have been reading, enjoying and learning by heart, Edward Lear’s nonsense poem The Owl and the Pussycat.

I have been very impressed and pleased with the amount of effort that was put into learning this piece. We talked about some of the unusual or unfamiliar words in the poem, such as quince. Luckily someone in class had a quince tree in their garden and brought in a quince fruit, so we were able to see, touch, smell (and hopefully) taste it.

We found out about Edward Lear’s life and explored some of his nonsense limericks.

We have been very busy in our Maths lessons learning to add and subtract 1, 2 and 3-digit numbers to and from multiples of 10.

Homework task: To recite the poem The Owl and the Pussycat to an adult.

Draw a picture of an owl and a pussycat.  Write down 5 things you know about Edward Lear and read them to an adult.
