Week 2 (09/01/17)

This week we have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. It is a great book for learning the days of the week as well as counting and spelling numbers. We have acted out the story using props from the story sack and learnt some new vocabulary along the way such as chrysalis, larva, nectar, pollen, species, butterfly and symmetry.

We have used some information books ( non-fiction ) to find out more about caterpillars and butterflies. This topic has caught the imagination of the children and quite a few children have brought in their own books to show and share with the class.

We have talked about symmetry and tried to coloured butterflies with symmetrical wings.

In Maths lessons we have been counting two sets of things and then working out how many we have all together. You can try this at home and talk about the all the different ways you can add two numbers that total 10.

We have all made Christingle candles using oranges, fruit, jelly babies, red ribbon and candles. They are for the Christingle church visit on Friday afternoon.

Hopefully you have read the Class One Newsletter and are aware of the topics this term.
