Welcome to Term 2!
This week in English and reading we have started to look at ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ by Phillip Pullman. We have thought about the opening to the story and what we know about the characters. During our reading skills sessions, we have been learning about asking and answering literal ‘who’ questions. We have been developing our grammar knowledge by looking at how adjectives modify nouns and we have learnt about the 4 adjective questions.
In Maths this week we have been learning about numbers below zero. We have been counting up and down on number lines exploring negative numbers and we have been solving problems involving changes in temperature. In our fluency sessions, we have been solving subtraction calculations using strategies other than the column method.
In history this week we learnt about the Mayan city of Chichen Itza. We looked at El Castillo, a famous pyramid with a temple and the significance of this building for the Mayan people.
Today we started to rehearse for our Christmas performance. If your child has been given a speaking part, they should now have a copy of the script. Please support your child to learn their lines and scripts need to be in school every day for rehearsals. Information regarding costumes and the performances will be sent out shortly.
