Happy New Year! We hope you all had a relaxing Christmas break with your families. Thank you so much for all the Christmas cards, chocolates and the vouchers you gave us – it was so generous of you all.
This week we started our Victorians topic by discussing what we already know about the period and what we would like to find out. We looked at pictures of Victorian times and discussed what they tell us about life then and how it was similar or different to life now. We also started to find out more about Queen Victoria herself – her life, her family and which countries were part of the British Empire during her reign.
In maths we have been learning about arrays and the calculations that they represent.
We have also been practising drawing arrays to represent calculations. When we draw them we have to remember that all the rows have to be equal and all the columns have to be equal. Our work on multiplication has also included learning about the 2, 5 and 10 times tables – ask us what we know about numbers in these times tables and encourage us to count in 2s, 5s and 10s at home!
On Monday in collective worship, Mrs Barton read the children ‘The Dot’ by Peter H.Reynolds. She challenged the whole school to create pictures inspired by the story, so in our art lesson we painted dotty pictures using the ends of paintbrushes and other circular objects. The children have been given a letter this week about an upcoming trip to Reading Museum. Please check book bags and return the permissions slips.
