Week 1 (25/2/19)

This week in English we have started to read an abridged version of ‘The Secret Garden’. We have explored the first few chapters thinking about Mary and what has happened to her. We have also been continuing to work on our use of speech punctuation and we have been investigating other words for ‘said’. Next week we will be writing another story to further develop our use of adjective and adverbs as well as our use of speech.

In maths we have been learning a formal expanded method for multiplication. We will be continuing with this next week and then moving on to learning the more compact method.

On Wednesday, we continued with our engineering project and we thought about a problem that affects us and an invention that would solve the problem. We discussed lots of ideas in groups. The children have been asked to think of their own idea ready to be developed next week.

Today in geography, we learnt about features of rivers. We looked at the source and mouth as well as geographical features such as waterfalls, meanders and locks. We watched a film clip that showed the journey of the river Severn from source to sea.

Well done to everyone who completed the optional geography home learning over half term. The children have all had the opportunity to share their learning with the class.
