Week 1 (25/02/19)

Welcome back to the second half of the Spring Term and we wish you all have had a restful half term. As part of place value we have been focusing on understanding of tens and ones. We have been looking at the numbers 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 to explore whether if they are same or different in comparison to the numbers, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90.  The children have been using lots of concrete resources to show tens and ones within different numbers.

For our writing this week we have recapped  the skills we have learnt to far with a lot of emphasis on handwriting, letter formation and the presentation of work across all books. We have recapped finger spaces, capital letter, full stops and the use of Phonics when writing.  We have also been trying to identify Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives in our sentences.

Furthermore Year One have enjoyed completing our Zentangle patterns for Art. The children had to concentrate really hard to trace their Zodiac animals and then use careful pen grip to draw different patterns inside their animal. Moreover as part of ICT the children had the opportunity to use BeeBots to set instructions as part of programming. In Phonics we will now begin to understand the use of alternative sounds for particular phonemes in the Phase 5 Phonic sounds.
