Welcome back after a lovely and sunny Easter holiday. I have read all about the children’s adventures over the Easter holidays in their recounts. We have continued to look at recounts throughout the week and have begun a recount from the point of view of one of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will continue looking at the key features of a recount until next week.
In Maths we are focusing on number facts to help quicken mental arithmetic. For instance if you know 7 + 7 = 14 you can quickly work out 70 + 70 = 140.
Another method we have been using when adding and subtracting is jumping to the nearest multiple of 10 or 100. For example 270 + 60 may be tricky to work out mentally. Instead children do 270 + 30 = 300 in their heads. Then they need to add on another 30 (30+30=60) to make 330. Splitting 60 up into manageable chunks makes it much easier to add in your head.
This term our History topic is all about The Tudors. It will continue into the final term as well when we have an exciting trip planned to Sulgrave Manor. Children will get the opportunity to become Tudors for the day at a real Tudor house! I can already tell how excited the children are about our new topic as many have brought in books and research from home.

There will be a timestable test on Friday covering all of the tables we have focused on in class. These are the 3,4,6,7 and 8x tables. Children should already know there 2,5 and 10 x tables.
