We hope that you all had a lovely Christmas.
This week in English we have started our new text ‘How to Live Forever’ by Colin Thompson. This is a picture book with wonderful illustrations and a very thoughtful story. We have read the first few pages in which we found out that a book has vanished from a very mysterious looking library. We thought about what the text and illustrations tell us about the library. We have also been learning about adverbs and we have looked at the questions that adverbs answer. Finally we have been looking at newspaper articles, we identified the features of this genre of writing and we evaluated a range of reports. Next week we will be pulling all of this learning together to write our own newspaper reports.
In maths this week we have been multiplying numbers by 10 and 100. We have been learning how when a number is multiplied by 10 the digits move one place up the place value grid and when we multiply by 100 the digits move two places up the grid. Can you ask us to multiply some 2 or 3 digit numbers by 10 or 100? In our fluency sessions we have been working on improving our speed recall of number bonds to 100 and we have been continuing to solve addition and subtraction problems using a range of methods.
This week we started our new geography topic. Today we thought about what it means to be a geographer and what skills a geographer would need.
