Week 1 (04/01/17)

Maths

FRACTIONS!!! – “Hey, these are OK!”

We have been using known facts to reduce or simplify fractions. We can also now find equivalent fractions (fractions that look completely different but in fact are the same amount) eg. 2/7 is the same as 16/56

A fraction in its simplest form, is a fraction that has been divided by a common factor continuously until it can’t be divided any longer.

 English

Reckless by Cornelia Funke is the book that we are focusing on.  We have been picking the first page apart by finding things that stand out: The night  breathed through the apartment like a dark animal; drowned by its silence. We have been looking specifically at Cornelia’s writing style, she uses her certain style and cleverly uses the first person. Alongside the introduction of the characters, she has already shown her audience how to ‘read’. She she calls the first chapter Once Upon a Time by this isn’t like any fairy tale we know!

ICT

We have been using the ipads, we haven’t got one each but we were working in groups. We were making picture ebooks aimed at younger children using the brush program tool.

Year 5 exercise books

We are going to be bringing home some of the old books we used last year. They don’t need to come back to school again – they are ours forever!

WE ARE AWESOME !

Mark came to speak to us at the very beginning of our school year which was significant because it is starting off how we are going to continue this year.

We can choose to be happy.  The more we choose to be brilliant then it becomes a habit and we become it (we are it already).

We have been challenged to do an act or random kindness every day for 2 weeks (or at least once) then tell a member of staff and get a Jelly Baby in recognition.

The 2%  mind set  –  You are AWESOME!
