Week 1 (03/11/2014)

This week we have been writing stories based on familiar places such as the home and the local community. We read a book called Roger Loses His Marbles and based our stories on the characters from this book. We thought about local places we could include in our stories and decided that the Mr Simms Sweet Shoppe in Wallingford would be a good place to include in our stories. We have focused on writing stories with a beginning, middle and end. We have also been learning how to use commas in a list. This was useful when writing a list of sweets bought at the shop.

In maths we have been partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones, using a 100 square to add and subtract 10’s.

We have also been using atlases to learn about the oceans and continents of the world. We have drawn and labelled these on maps. Ask your child to name some.

Homework task: Please read, correct and rewrite your story in your best writing.
