We hope you all had a relaxing break. It has been great to hear about what the children have been up to in their holiday and see their A3 pictures.
This week class R have been learning about The Gunpowder Plot. They listened to the story of Guy Fawkes attempt to blow up the houses of parliament and then retold it as part of a group. The children have been creating ‘fabulous fireworks’ using different media including paint, glitter and glue, and creating oil pastels, towards the end of the week we started making models of fireworks using junk.
In Maths, the children have been learning to count objects that cannot be moved or can only be heard. The children listened for marbles dropping into a jar (fireworks) and counted how many they could hear, they then matched this to a numeral. We began using a number line and number tracks to find one more than a given number. You can practise this with this game http://www.learningplanet.com/act/123order.asp.
In dance, the children listened to two pieces of music Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ and the ‘Music for the Royal Fireworks’ composed by Handel they responded to them through movement before learning a short routine.
Next week we begin our space theme based on nursery rhymes. We will start with the rhyme I’m a little Rocket you could learn it at home ready for the start of the week. You can use this rhyme in various ways. Talk about the words that rhyme creating a rhyming string. I.e. thin, fin, bin, din, win. You could talk about what the words mean. Are the real words or Alien words? Why not try to write some of the words in moon dust! (Salt with glitter in).

Off the launch pad to the moon.
We will talk about what ‘Space’ is, astronauts, how they get to space and reasons to go to space.
