Week 5 (29/09/2014)

This week class R have opened a ‘Pants Shop’. We were inspired by our visit from Giles Andreae last Friday. We re-read the story ‘Pants’. The children made a shop sign and have been selling and buying spotty pants, stripy pants, coloured pants as well as many other designs of their own. They have been working well and have been taking turns to role-play the shop keepers and customers. The children have been exploring mixing primary colours and have used the colours they made to create day of the week pants. A small group of children made ‘Melting moments’ on Wednesday. The children enjoyed them; you might like to try making them at home. You can visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/grownups/activity/melting-moments for the recipe.

In Numeracy, the children have been learning about sorting. They started by finding objects that match, are the same. They then began to sort into colours, and objects that we could/could not eat. You could visit this website to get you started http://www.primaryresources.co.uk/online/sorting.swf. Continue to practise your sorting skills by sorting the washing, sorting toys, cutlery.

In phonics, the children have been continuing to play listening games and have been introduced to the phonemes p, i, n. This week your child has their first phoneme/grapheme flashcards in their book folders. Please cut them up and start to use them to practise the phoneme/grapheme correspondence. If you would like support on how to say the sounds a video can be found here http://www.teachfind.com/national-strategies/letters-and-sounds-articulation-phonemes-vowels-and-consonants that shows you how to articulate the phonemes.

Next week we will be beginning to learn about shape, looking at shape in the environment and starting to describe shapes.

Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Zimmerman, Mrs Jameson and Mrs Bowden
