This week we have continued finding out about the events of The Great Fire of London. We thought about what we might have seen and heard at the time, and thought about how we might have felt. We planned and then wrote a diary as though we were in London, in September 1666. We had to remember to use ‘first person’ and to write in the past tense. We also tried really hard to include detail by asking the adverb and adjective questions.
In maths we have been learning about money. We have been finding out about the different coins and notes that we have. We know that you can make amounts in different ways and have used part whole models to show this. We have also matched sets of coins which add up to make the same amount.
As part of our work on the Great Fire of London we had a brilliant workshop all about materials and how they burn. We learnt why so many houses burned down in the fire and that different materials burn with a different coloured flame. We also found out that a balloon with water in won’t pop if you try to burn the part with the water in. Ask us to tell you what the three things are that you need to create fire.
In art we created some lovely poppies to cover a soldier outline. We drew, cut out and folded our poppies before adding them to our soldier. They look wonderful!
