Another terrific week at Crowmarsh……..
The week started with a group of our year 6 children working alongside the author Cas Lester at the Story Museum in Oxford. They worked with Cas developing story characters and learning some useful techniques to implement in their own writing.
On Tuesday we saw year 5 dressing up as their favourite Roald Dahl characters, including a mystery visit from two Fantastic Mr. Foxes! On Friday we had the amazing Giles Andreae come in to share some of his books with us. A huge thank you to governor and parent Mrs Millbourn for organising this visit. The children were inspired by Giles Andreae’s dramatic reading and storytelling. He came and did a special session with the Preschool and our Reception class and then did a whole school assembly from years 1 to 6.
We have been using Giles Andreae’s book, Giraffes can’t Dance during our whole school collective worship, to illustrate our school theme of ‘being the best we can be.’ If you haven’t shared this book with your children, I highly encourage you to do so. In the story we meet a giraffe called Gerald who is always told that he can’t dance. Until one night when he meets a wise cricket who explains that, “sometimes when you’re different you just need a different song.” Gerald’s whole attitude towards dancing is altered and suddenly he realises that he can dance while the other animals look on amazed. It is all about changing our ‘mindset’ and challenging ourselves to try new things and to reach goals that we may once have thought unattainable.
Our week ended with our whole school (and pre-school) Harvest church service at St. Mary’s Magdalene where each class shared a special song, poem or prayer to help us reflect on all that we are thankful for during this season. All the food that our school donated this week will be delivered by the children to families around Crowmarsh Gifford; a true example of how our value of ‘service’ is demonstrated in our own community.
How blessed we are to have such an amazing school family where there are so many exciting things that take place during the week; visits and experiences that further enrich and bring to life all the topics that our children learn about.
We have so much to be thankful for this Harvest season, our children, our staff who help all the children to always ‘be their very best,’ our governors, our parents and our wider community. Together we work, ‘in partnership for success,’ creating a truly amazing and inspiring school that ignites a passion for learning.
