Week 1 (29/10/18)

Welcome to Term 2!

This week in English and guided reading we have started to look at The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Phillip Pullman. We have thought about the opening to the story and what we know about the characters. We have been developing our grammar knowledge by looking at the purpose of adjectives, how to diagram adjectives and how to identifying which adjective question is being answered.

In Maths this week we have continued with rounding. We have been rounding 2 and 3 digit numbers to the nearest 100 and 3 and 4 digit numbers to the nearest 1000. Throughout this we have been using number lines and applying our knowledge of the ‘rule of 5’.

In history this week we started our new topic based around World War 1. We talked about when WW1 was and who was involved. We also thought carefully about a range of factors that caused WW1 to start. Over the next few weeks we will be learning about life in the trenches. We will also be looking at local fallen soldiers – if you have any information on local men who lost their lives during WW1 we would be very grateful for your knowledge!
