This week we have been writing stories about Sproutboy, the sprout with super powers who saves Christmas! We have been trying to write more detailed story openings so that we really set the scene for our reader. Our challenge has then been to include this level of detail throughout our story so that it is not over too quickly – we want our reader to enjoy it! We would love to read you our stories at the either of the open evenings this week or next week.
In maths we have been focusing on ‘equal groups’ and beginning to develop our maths vocabulary related to repeated addition and multiplication. Ask us what ‘equal’ means and what groups have to include in order to be equal. We now know that the opposite of equal is unequal and have sorted pictures by whether the groups within them are equal or unequal. We also looked at pictorial representations of ‘equal groups’ and discussed what they show then we matched up different representations such as these:
Of course, we have also been putting a lot of effort into rehearsing our Christmas performance – which is coming along nicely! We have lots of costumes in school but if we need your child to bring in anything extra they will have received a letter this week, so please check book bags or ask us if you are unsure.
We have talked to the children a lot over the past few weeks about the importance of staying focussed and listening really carefully to the learning discussions and teaching that are taking place in every lesson. It is crucial that they understand the need to take charge of their own learning and put their best efforts into everything that they do – only then will they be able to make real progress and become effective learners. We would appreciate it if you could reiterate these messages when discussing school/homework/learning at home.
