Dear Parents/Carers,
This week the children listened to the story of the ‘The Little Red Hen’. The children retold the story and the adult scribed their sequencing using pictures, towards the end of the week the children created new endings for the story. The children have been learning about how bread is made. The children were invited to explore the ingredients needed to make bread including flour, yeast, oil and salt. As a class we made dough and watched it rise. We baked the bread in the oven and passed it around the class the children then talked about how it had changed. The children watched how bread is made on the interactive whiteboard and explored other cereals harvest from the field including barley, corn and wheat grain.
The children talked about what they knew about autumn and went on an autumn walk to collect signs of autumn. The children noticed many different colours and heard various sounds including ‘crunching leaves’ and ‘the wind blowing in the trees’.
In maths the children have been learning that unless you add or take away objects from a group there will always be the same total as when you last counted. Next week we will be sharing the story of ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and creating their own soup and then writing our own instructions of how they made it. Please remember to bring in your vegetable to include in the class soup by 9th October 2017.
The children should have all brought a reading book home in a plastic wallet. Please ensure that you are sharing books daily and write any comments you have about the progress of your child’s reading in their named reading record. Their books will be changed once a week.
