Week 3 (15/09/2014)

This week in Year 3 we have been extremely busy.  In Maths we have started streaming the class to give the children more quality 1:1 time with a teacher. In particular we have been focusing on place value and partitioning to really secure the children’s knowledge before increasing the pace in Year 3. We have also introduced the symbols < and >. In History this week we have continued with our topic and have created a timeline to give an overview of key information across the Stone Age to Iron Age period. We also tackled the tricky concept of BC and AD so I challenge you all to ask your child what BC means.  Just a reminder: If children read at least 4 times a week at home (and it is recorded in their reading record) they can earn extra house points. Reading could be listening to your child read aloud or even discussing the book over dinner. Whilst listening to your child read it is important to ask questions such as ‘why do they think something might have happened?’ This will encourage them to explore the book on a deeper level and support their progress in reading.
