This week in our English lessons we have been continuing to look at our class book, ‘I was a rat.’ We have looked at the different places in which the story is set and based our writing on these. We have looked at the description of the orphanage, highlighting any noun phrases we could spot; written diary entries based on the characters’ visit to City Hall; written police reports using first person and past tense; created play scripts using a conversation that took place in the hospital; and written letters based on the main character’s first day at school.
In maths we have been continuing to look at multiplication. We have focussed on our 5 x table. We know that we can work out the answers to multiplication problems by counting up and down in 5s, drawing arrays, using objects or making pictorial representations. We have also started to look at how the bar model can help us to solve word problems involving multiplication.
Lisa, Kate and Anna each have 5 jelly babies. How many jelly babies do they have altogether?

The problem tells us that there are 3 people (3 parts) and that each person has 5 jelly babies (each part must be worth 5) 3 lots of 5 = 15, so there must be 15 jelly babies altogether.
In PSHCE we have been learning about what makes us special and individual. ‘What makes me me?’ We thought really carefully about what makes us special. Ask us to share our ideas with you.
