Week 2 (12/09/2016)

MATHS

We have been going over and practicing our times tables up to 12 and have learnt a new method called dotting. Here is an example of the eight times tables.

88               11x

1x          2x           24             64

16           8      4x          9x         80

3x        32       6x             40         12x

7x               5x             48        72

56              8x           10x         96

Dotting is for increasing the speed of your times tables.

How to do it: you randomly point at the numbers and say the answer, if it was an answer you say how many times that number goes into 8.

Another thing that we have been doing is an investigation:

Prove that 6×3 is 18 which is the same as 3×6 is 18 using resources

⃝⃝⃝⃝⃝⃝         =3×6=18

⃝⃝⃝⃝⃝⃝

⃝⃝⃝⃝⃝⃝

=6×3=18
