This week the children have explored their new classroom and started to make new friends. They are learning routines and rules and have settled well into their routine in the morning, Well Done Class R!
Our theme this term is ‘All about me’. The children have all been using mirrors to look at their reflections and to paint self-portraits; they were encouraged to look carefully at the colours they would need to use. In Literacy, the children have been talking about why they come to school and how they can work together as a team to help each other to learn and be the best we can be. We have started creating a teamwork tree to help us share our learning and remind us we can help each other. In Numeracy we have been singing number rhymes and finding the correct number of objects to match a numeral. The children can use this knowledge and sing along to the rhyme here http://www.crickweb.co.uk/Early-Years.html. The children have been playing listening games that support them with learning their letters and sounds, interactive games to support with this can be found at http://www.letters-and-sounds.com/phase-1-games.html . The children have been introduced to the phonemes ‘s’, ‘a’ and ‘t’ and have been sharing words that start with these as initial sounds.
This week you will find a sheet of A4 paper in your child’s book bag with three sentence starters. Please can we ask that you have a discussion with your child about their first week in school and write their responses on the sheet of paper? Please send it back to school in their book bag and it will be stuck into their ‘Learning Journey’.
Next week the as a class we will begin to talk about what learning is and what will help us to learn. We will start to talk about families. The children are welcome to bring in a photograph of their family to aid their discussion. Please place it in a named envelope in your child’s book bag. We look forward to sharing them next week.
