This week we have been finding out all about humans and animals. We have looked at non-fiction books and recapped on some of the features of these texts. We received a letter from an alien earlier in the week. He wanted to know all about humans. Apparently we’re very different to the aliens on his planet! We wrote fact files to tell him some of the most important facts about humans. We compared skeletons of different animals and we have started to learn about endo, exo and hydrostatic skeletons.
In maths this week we have been adding and subtracting single-digit numbers to a 2-digit number. We have also begun to cross the tens boundaries when doing this. E.g. 27 + 5 = or 32 – 6 =. We have been working out these sums by using dienes equipment (sticks of tens, and ones cubes) or by counting back in our heads.
In ICT we had a go at typing sentences about the human body. Then we drew bodies using a drawing program and labelled them.
In our art lesson we created human and animal skeletons, by drawing in white chalk on black paper. We looked really carefully at the shapes of different skeletons before creating our own.
