This week the children went on an autumn walk as part of our Nature Detective week. They looked really carefully to see what signs of autumn they could find. They spotted lots of colourful leaves, shiny conkers, prickly hedgehogs and egg-shaped acorns. (All the children’s’ own descriptions)
In English we have been looking at autumn poems. The children wrote about the different signs of autumn, making sure they chose their best ‘wow!’ words to describe them. As a class, the children created a super poem which is on the board in the entrance hall. Please have a look if you get the chance.
We also chose a tree for our ‘tree study’ and chose some words to describe how it looks now, in autumn. We will be looking at the tree again in winter, spring and summer to compare and contrast how it looks in different seasons.
In Art we have been creating autumn pictures. We have used leaves to create some colourful rubbings. The children also had a go at making rafts, using the things they found on their autumn walk. Ask us to tell you about the rafts we made. Did they float or sink?
In maths we have been focussing once again on our number bonds up to 10. Play pairs or snap with your child at home, encouraging them to look carefully for those numbers which add up to make 5,6,7 or 10. If you say a number how quickly can your child say the number needed to make it total 10? Challenge them! Can they beat their time?
PE KITS – please make sure your child has leggings/tracksuit bottoms and extra socks in their PE bag as the children will often be going outside for PE.
TASK: Our next topic will be Celebrations. Who can find out about a really interesting/unusual celebration? Bring in what you find out, ready to share with the class after Half-Term.
After Half-Term the format of ‘Show& Tell’ will be changing. We will choose 3 children each week to bring in something from home to share on a Friday. We will let you know on the blog each week which 3 children have been chosen. (This selection is random, using lollipop sticks with the children’s names on)
