Dear Parents/Carers,
This week we have been continuing to learn about growing. The children shared their baby photographs and talked about how they have changed, they found differences such as no teeth when they were a baby, smaller hands and arms and different coloured hair. The children looked carefully in mirrors and at their photographs to recognise the difference and then used ICT and the Tux paint program to create self-portraits of themselves.
In Literacy, we read the poem ‘Now we are six’ by A.A Milne and created our own ‘Now we are five, or nearly five’ poems. The children were encouraged as a group to think about what they could do at one, two three, at four they started school and then they all individually thought about what they could do at five, or nearly five!
In Mathematics, the children have been using mathematical language such as face, edge, circular, square, rectangular, point, corner, side and curved to describe 3d shapes. They have been encouraged to describe and name everyday shapes and talk about how they know it cannot be a certain shape, as a challenge. You could help at home by asking your child to find certain shapes cube, cylinder, sphere, cone, cuboid, or take it in turns to describe an object and find it in the house or garden.
On Wednesday the German puppet theatre came to school the children were very excited and really enjoyed the show!
Next week we are going to be telling stories in Literacy and in Maths we will be beginning to learn about doubling and halving numbers.
