This week in English, we have continued our work on Imaginary Worlds. We watched a short film called Hoverbike and we thought about the character, the colours, the story and the setting. Then we created our own story maps for Hoverbike and orally re-told the story. Next week we will be planning and writing our own stories set in an imaginary world. Please remember to be looking at the spelling words for this term.
In Maths this week, we have been choosing the most appropriate method for addition and subtraction problems involving money. Next week we will be recapping time and looking at area and perimeter. Look out for a new maths activity on the Active Learn website.
On Monday afternoon we enjoyed a visit from Chris Riddell, we listened to him talk about his illustrations, stories and characters.
In Science this week we have been learning about volume and pitch. We also thought about how we could best insulate sounds. Next week we will be learning about changing pitch and measuring sound.
In DT this week, we investigated structures. We worked in groups of 3 to build a structure that –
1) Stood entirely unsupported
2) Was at least as tall as a 30cm ruler and
3) Supported a 200g weight on the top of the structure
We all did really well and nearly all of the structures met all 3 requirements. Have a look at the photos of our structures!
