The children were in awe with the lessons that the Planetarium taught them last week. They were so engaged and by the ‘oohs and aahs’ that came from inside – it was amazing!
I’m not sure what happened to the blog from last week, but I was raving about the new school library. All of the year groups were so excited to be able to come and visit the ‘heart of our school.’ We cannot thank the PTA enough for their support and hard work over the half term. It really does not look the same….it truly has been completely made over! As one child said, “it is actually a place I would want to spend time to read and relax.” If you have not yet visited it, you must. So, if you were involved, a huge thank you.
The timing for this was perfect. This week is officially World Book Week and again, thanks to the PTA and the Wallingford Bookshop, the year 4, 5 and 6 classes had the pleasure of welcoming Chris Riddell, author of Goth Girl, into our school. He came and spoke about drawing and writing and then read us an excerpt from his newest book. Some of the classes from St. John’s came and joined us as we sat riveted to what Chris was telling us.
So, this week we focus on reading. Reading for fun, pleasure and for a purpose. Reading is all around us, but this week we want to draw everyone’s attention to the excitement of reading. Share a favourite book with your child – talk about the characters, setting and the plot. Curl up and enjoy the magic of setting off on an exciting journey……
