This term we are concentrating on geography and thinking about the differences between living on an island and living on the mainland.
We have been using stories about a little girl called Katie Morag who lives on an island off the west coast of Scotland. In the story the island is called the Isle of Struay but it is based on a real island called Coll.
We used an atlas to find out where Coll was and then we coloured in symbols on the map to represent features on the island. We invented some symbols of our own to show where the things from the ferry boat such as books or glasses had to be delivered on the island. We are going to use Katie Morag stories in our literacy lessons too.
We really enjoyed going into the Science Dome to learn about space. We learnt about star constellations and some of the ancient stories behind the names of the constellations. In class we looked at pictures of planets and wrote about them. We also had fun making space monsters with googly eyes, fluffy pom-poms and sparkly stickers!
Homework – Over the weekend please can you make a list of 5 things to do with Space.
