This week we have started our topic about inventions. On Monday, we looked at pictures of old and new versions of inventions such as the telephone, the motor car, the washing machine, the camera and the bicycle. We found out when they were invented and placed pictures of them on a large timeline. Some children shared their homework and told us about inventions that they couldn’t live without or that were important to them. We discussed which inventions would really be difficult to live without and, while several children thought they’d struggle to survive without an i-pad (!!!), we did then think of inventions that would be even harder to do without! Ask us what we think about this.
Later in the week, we found out about our local inventor, Jethro Tull, and it turns out that one class member actually lives in his old house! Ask us about what he invented.
In Maths, we have been focussing on recognising odd and even numbers, and counting in ‘lots of 2’ or ‘lots of 5.’ We have also introduced the concept of halves and quarters. Ask us how many halves or quarters make a whole.
As part of the ICT (computing) curriculum, we have to teach the children about e-safety. This week we have discussed staying safe while using the internet. We showed the children a video which is age-appropriate but designed to have a hard-hitting message. If you would like to watch it with your child and discuss it again, this is the link:

We will continue to add an optional homework task on the blog each week, but we will also be starting to send home a paper copy of it, so that more children can access it.
