Week 2 (12/01/2015)

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Our new topic in English is Myths and Legends. The class have really engaged with this topic and we have already had lots of interesting stories brought in for the homework task and show and tell. This week we have focused on a Chinese myth about a girl name Kuang-Li. So far we have read half the story about a girl who must defeat the dragon. We then used role play and drama to act out the rest of the story. The children are going to write up their new endings to the story next week.

In Maths we have been looking at our tables again (focus on 6x tables) using this knowledge of multiples to sort numbers into Venn diagrams.

We will be doing lots of Art this term looking at various artists and then trying to recreate artwork in that style. This week and next we have been looking at Victor Vasarely – a Hungarian artist who uses bold colours and shapes to create optical illusions.

Our topic this big term is Geography ‘Where in the world.’ The lessons will focus on children’s global understanding of where countries/continents are and then looking in more depth at certain areas/cultures around the world as well as within the United Kingdom. This is to give the children a better understanding of life outside of Oxfordshire.
