Week 3 (17/11/2014)

In our topic work this week we have shared witch stories. We read and retold the story of Winnie the Witch – some of us worked in groups, writing a different section of the story each, then putting it back together and reading it to the class.  We also wrote a list of ingredients for a witch’s spell, thinking of the most weird, wonderful and disgusting ingredients we could!  Later in the week, we enjoyed reading ‘Room on the Broom’ and designing our own magnificent broomsticks and gruesome beasts!

In Maths, we have been practising counting on or back 1,2 or 3 from a given number (up to 20.) We have used number lines and objects, but we are also trying hard to do it in our heads.

Our Science work has been about materials. We looked at objects, decided what they were made of then sorted them into groups by material. Ask us to point out objects that are made of glass/plastic/wood/metal.  The children also had a go at describing the properties of the materials, e.g. rough, smooth, shiny, sharp, blunt.  Ask us to describe materials at home.

TASK:  Who can write their own witch’s spell?  You can include the ingredients, the method, a picture and make sure you let us know what the spell is for!

Show and tell – the children picked for next Friday (28th) are Cara, Max and Oliver H (a few children swapped this week so some names are here again!)
