Speaking parts have now gone out to children and we are well on our way with rehearsals and learning our songs. Please encourage your child if they have a speaking part to learn their lines off by heart.
In English this week we have continued our performance poetry unit. Children have been editing the poem ‘The Sound Collector’ by putting emphasis on certain words using capital letters, punctuation and the shape of the words. This will help the reader to know the poet wants the poem to be performed. It is also anti bullying week this week so we have done some writing linked to our School theme.
In Maths this week we have started a new topic of 3D shapes and their properties alongside time telling. Please continue to ask your child questions about time e.g. What time will it be in half an hour? In 45 minutes? How many more minutes until quarter past? etc.
Spellings – In Class 3 we have now finished testing the first 100 high frequency words. Any spellings children didn’t know will be sent home next week to continue to work on. They will then have a few more random tests on those spellings to ensure the knowledge has been secured and is also following through into their writing.
Homework diaries – All children were issued with homework diaries at the beginning of the year. From Monday onwards we are going to collect the diaries every week and check every child’s diary for comments and reading. If you were using the reading records could you please now write any notes on reading in your child’s homework diary. Remember if your child reads at least four times a week they will get a house point. The diaries can also be used as another method to communicate between school and home but please remember these will only be checked on a Monday.
