In English this week, we have been continuing to think about persuasive writing. We have looked at the features of a persuasive letter and we have started to research facts about Egypt. We will be using this information next week to produce an information sheet persuading people to visit Egypt.
In Maths, we have looking at doubling and halving 2 and 3 digit numbers. We have also started to look at fractions. Next week, we will be continuing our fractions work and will start to look at some problem solving.

This week the Oxfordshire Museum Service ran a workshop on Ancient Egypt for Class 4. First of all we learnt about pyramids. We learnt that pyramids were as tall as 35 double decker buses and we found out that each brick weighed between 1 and 3 tonnes. We explored how the Egyptians would have moved these blocks and we had a go at rolling one on some logs. For the rest of the workshop we were able to look closely at a variety of artefacts from Ancient Egypt including canopic jars, scarab beetles and amulets. We learnt about the Rosetta Stone and that there could be as many as 200 different hieroglyphs. Everyone in Class 4 had a go at writing their name in hieroglyphics using a reed pen and ink. Finally we thought about the process of mummification, we learnt about the role of the embalmer and what happened to the body. We all had a go at wrapping each other with the bandages and we had to remember to wrap in the amulets! All of Class 4 really enjoyed the workshop.
