Today’s activities took us to some extremely high places…
Peter thoroughly enjoyed the 3G Swing. You had to climb up into an adult sized baby seat to experience it. After you had been strapped in, your team members had to pull on the ropes to haul the people in the seat up to tree top level. As soon as you heard your team count backwards to zero you had to pull a rope to set the 3G Swing into action.
Louis D’s highlight of the day was the Zip Wire. To reach the Zip Wire, you had to climb up to the very top of a large tower. Melissa, the Zip Wire Instructor, clipped your harness on to the Zip Wire and tightened the green rope which would tug you out on to the wire. Once Daisy, the other Instructor who waited at the bottom, shouted “Clear!” you could jump off the tower and enjoy the ride along the wire. On your second go you could travel backwards or upside down! Louis chose upside down.
Ruby managed to achieve the whole Leap of Faith! When you stand at the bottom of the post that has foot and hand holds attached all the way up the sides, it looks really easy. However, as you reach halfway it starts to get scary. Ruby’s tip is to not look down and just keep climbing to the top. At the top you have tp cautiously climb on to the small square platform and stand up. A silver trapeze hangs just above and in front of you to which you have to do a medium jump to catch hold of it. Finally you have to pluck up the courage to let go and drop back down to the ground.
Jasmine challenged herself on ‘Jacob’s Ladder’. You had three people on your team, one had to wear a harness and climb up four log bars on the ladder. This person had a large sling to use to wrap around each bar to help them scale the ladder. The other two people were on the ground and they had to keep hold of the safety ropes for the person who was climbing. There were also two other children climbing and they had to use teamwork to help each other reach the top. When you had reached the top or as far as you could go, the Instructor helped drop you back down to the ground on your safety rope.
To finish day 2 off we sang around the camp fire and toasted marshmallows. See you all tomorrow!
